Add BioInfoBank Institute as a partner to Your 7th Framework Programme Application
BioInfoBank Institute (BIB) is a small non-for-profit research and development organization. The main scientific expertise of affiliated scientists is protein structure and function prediction, protein engineering and rational drug design and bioinformatics software development. The progress in protein structure and function prediction is being objectively evaluated in a biannual series of CASP meetings. Members of our group have obtained very high rankings in the session conducted in 2002, 2004 and 2006. The group has developed many useful services to facilitate biological data mining and processing projects, including:
... and many others. The services maintained by the institute are visited by tens of thousands people daily making bioinfo.pl one of the most visited bioinformatics sites in Europe (according to Alexa.com). In the last years the laboratory expanded its experimental efforts in the protein engineering field. In 2004, BIB obtained the status of the "Center of Excellence" from the National Ministry of Research and Information Science. BIB was ranked 8th most productive (research efficiency) Polish scientific institution for the period 2001-2004 by the Information Processing Centre. BIB has participated in 2 FP5 and 6 FP6 projects and is currently involved in 2 FP7 grants. BioInfoBank Institute can contribute following expertise in joint research application:
- text mining
- web service design and development
- custom bioinformatics software development
- gene identification and genome annotation
- detection of distant homologues
- sensitive structure and function prediction
- protein - protein docking and docking of small molecules
- enrichment of active compound sets and rational drug development
- protein engineering
BIB develops innovative research management strategies, has a very active technology transfer unit and maintains a high-tech-oriented venture capital fund (BIB Seed Capital). Through the technology transfer unit and the venture capital fund BioInfoBank has access to Polish high-tech start-ups and can suggest suitable additional SME partners for the FP7 application. Current partners offer following expertise:
- web design
- software development
- medium and high throughput screening with selected assays
- protein expression and production
- biomedical device development
- neuromarketing
